Ridley Fenix SLX Disc - King of the Cobbles
Fenix is the quintessential “all-round” bike. It offers the perfect balance of performance, weight, strength, stiffness and comfort for those long days in the saddle or a quick trip through rough country back roads.
With its unique diamond shaped tubing creating reinforced edges for a robust frame and increased impact-resistance the Fenix is the number one choice for team Lotto-Soudal when tackling the famous Spring Classics. In fact, the Lotto-Soudal Ladies Team race with it all year long!
While this bike expertly handles top competition, it is also perfectly suited for the part-time racer or recreational rider in terms of performance, comfort and cost. It’s the optimal bike for a huge range of conditions from tackling your local loop to your next Gran Fondo or that bucket list trip through the Flemish Ardennes.
Fenix SLX Disc
The Fenix SLX Disc is Ridley's top ‘all-round’ offering. The high-modulus carbon layup consists of 60/50/40-ton fibres allowing even more weight to be trimmed and the stiffness increased in key areas of the frame. Equipped with disc brakes, it is ready to conquer everything in its path no matter the conditions or terrain.
To compensate for the use of disc brakes, Ridley have made the frame as light as possible without compromising its handling qualities. The absence of a caliper brake bridge has allowed for a lowering of the seat stays which further increase the frame’s stiffness and add an extra boost in power-transfer and performance.
Why Disc?
Disc brakes are one of the newest game-changing evolutions to road cycling. They add that extra level of security to any ride, knowing that you can always stop on demand and are equally reliable in all weather conditions. The ease of braking is a real bonus, especially if you need to carefully negotiate a damp descent or your hands are frozen on a cold morning and barely functional! Just a light pull on the lever to modulate your speed will give you control and confidence. In addition there is no need for braking on the rim surface, heavily reducing wear and tear and giving you much more mileage from your chosen wheel-set.
"The ease of braking can be compared to the ease of changing gears when electronic shifting came out"
- Adam Hansen, Lotto Soudal Pro Cycling Team
"I’ve been training on disc brakes for a while now, even completing more than 5000 kms on the Ridley Fenix SL Disc. They have come a long way and are now at that high-end level we’re used to.
As a training bike I don’t think I could go back to rim brakes. Disc brakes road bikes are a full package: stiffer frame, stiffer quick release system (through axles) and better brakes.
On your sunny rides, the braking quality is equally as good as your days on the bike in the rain. The ease of braking can be compared to the ease of changing gears when electronic shifting came out. It’s a game changer!
The performance is very modular, not sudden, not scary, it's like a luxury. At first it’s not at all like you would imagine a disc brake road bike would be. Braking feels almost non-existent and with just a slightly harder pull on your levers you can get to a full stop faster than any other bike. I’m impressed. Very impressed."
