SMARTNET SILICA
SmartNET Silica® is Pirelli’s patented cutting edge compound. With its unique formula, developed through years of leading experience in motorsports, SmartNET Silica® provides cyclists with a truly uncompromising experience. Low rolling resistance and enhanced grip, mileage, puncture resistance and low weight this groundbreaking Pirelli compound excels in every condition. The unique silica particles, long-shaped instead of spheric, are able to position themselves in an organised longitudinal pattern instead of in a chaotic structure ensuring lower rolling resistance. They provide perfect chemical compatibility with wet tarmac, increasing wet grip and create a NETwork with other compound elements increasing compound resistance and improving both puncture resistance and mileage. FUNCTIONAL GROOVE DESIGN
To fine-tune the tread pattern of PZero™ Velo and PZero™ Velo 4S, Pirelli relied on motorsport-inspired FGD technology (Functional Groove Design). The tread pattern is not just an aesthetic function but takes inspiration from one of Pirelli’s best SSP tyres (SuperSport class of the World SuperBike racing competition): Diablo Supercorsa. The tread patterns were researched to maximise performance in terms of water outflow, dry and wet grip, mileage, tyre response, comfort and handling. Using a flash style design it features extremely tight angles with a definite lateral opening so as to facilitate water drainage, smoothness and even tyre usage. Moreover, the pattern has been designed to be progressively deeper enhancing resilience to give the tyre great reactiveness and response even during extreme cornering.
PZero™ Velo has three major footprint areas: a central slick ribbon, for high tyre smoothness, two extra-grooved intermediate bands, which help to negotiate bends and heat the tyre, and semi-slick edges providing high tyre responsiveness at the apex of a bend. This results in optimum contact whenever the tyre is required to supply maximum ground power transfer and safety in any set of conditions.
IDEAL CONTOUR SHAPING
For the contour and construction of the new PZero™ Velo tyres, Pirelli made use of ICS (Ideal Contour Shaping) technology working on the shape of the tyre contour. The use of CAD software, along with subsequent analysis of the finite elements (FEM), helped optimise the construction parameters of the tyre contour and repeatedly simulate performance. Hence P Zero™ Velo provides the best and most efficient footprint conferring grip, stability as well as a reactive and controlled response to every type of surface (straights, descents or bends).
